Mobile phones are not allowed.

Each year we make it clear that mobile phones are not allowed and every year we have had campers sneak in mobile phones and they regularly disappear or get broken. Kids think it will never happen but it invariably does.

Mobiles need to be charged and that makes them very visible as the sleeping quarters are regularly inspected and we'll confiscate them so what's the point? If parents need to talk to their child for a particular reason then they can get in touch with Sarah Rooksby or any of the other leaders on the numbers already provided and they can put the children in touch via a leader's mobile phone.

There is a payphone at Hagg Farm so you can call any time.

There's far too much to be getting on with at camp and the signal's not very good anyway so why risk it?

Reasons given by campers:

1. My Mum might want to contact me. - Your Mum *can* contact you - via the leaders on the numbers already provided.

2. It's got games on so it's something to do. - Electronic games aren't allowed anyway and mobile phone batteries don't last very long so it would be flat soon. Just take a look at what you can do without your phone.

3. It's got my music on it. - You are already allowed to bring CD players and cheap MP3 players. Both of which are cheaper, more robust and take standard replacable batteries.

4. It's got a camera and I want to take pictures at camp. - If you want to take pictures then bring a cheap digital camera or buy a single-use camera. They're more robust and take much better photos than smartphones. Also, the prints can be scanned and, if you want, added to this website :-) Click here if you've already got some.

Finally, you'll be surprised how much money you saved by being separated from mobile and its credit-swallowing temptations. You won't be doing "cold turkey" for long.
